Pediatric Teletherapy Services

Understanding Pediatric Teletherapy

Teletherapy, also known as online therapy or telehealth therapy, is a method conduct assessment, diagnosis, and or provide therapy, such as speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy via the Internet using secure and HIPAA compliant video conferencing.

We offer services such as speech therapy, mental health therapy, and occupational therapy via the internet using secure and HIPPA-compliant video conferencing. Please note that not all insurance plans provide coverage for teletherapy services related to occupational therapy (OT). We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm whether these services are included in your plan.

How Does Teletherapy Work?

During a teletherapy session, the client and therapist communicate and interact in real-time allowing them to provide guidance, exercises, and feedback remotely. Occupational and Physical therapist can provide guidance for activities aimed at improving fine motor skills, sensory integration, cognitive abilities, and daily living skills. They may also suggest modifications or adaptations to the client’s home or work environment to promote independence and functional abilities.

Teletherapy platforms often include features such as screen sharing, interactive games, and virtual whiteboards to enhance the therapy experience.

Benefits of Pediatric Teletherapy

Teletherapy allows individuals to receive therapy from licensed therapists without the need for in-person visits to a clinic or office. Teletherapy has several advantages, including increased accessibility to therapy services, especially for individuals in rural areas or those with limited mobility. It can also provide convenience and flexibility for both therapists and clients, as sessions can be scheduled at mutually convenient times without the need for travel.

Is Teletherapy Right for Your Child?

Teletherapy can be a fantastic option for many families, offering flexibility and accessibility. However, it’s important to recognize that it may not suit every child or condition. Some children benefit more from hands-on interventions or specialized equipment that can only be provided in person. Additionally, factors like internet connectivity or technical challenges can sometimes impact the quality of remote sessions.

If you’re unsure whether teletherapy is the best fit for your child, our team is here to help guide you through the decision-making process.

In most cases, therapy is provided in person at our Chapel Hill or Durham clinics, where children have access to a rich, supportive environment designed to promote growth.

Virtual services may be available when clinically appropriate and covered by insurance. However, many of the children we serve experience the greatest progress when working in person with our licensed therapists, especially with access to our specialized sensory equipment and therapeutic tools—carefully selected to enhance engagement and accelerate development.

Whenever possible, we recommend in-person sessions to maximize the effectiveness of your child’s therapy and support meaningful, lasting outcomes.
