Therapy Smarts of Durham & Chapel Hill Advocates in Raleigh and Hosts Senator Natalie Murdock for Clinic Tour
Durham, NC — November 20, 2025 — Therapy Smarts of Durham and Chapel Hill continued its strong advocacy efforts this week on behalf of children and families who depend on pediatric therapy services. Leadership and staff members traveled to Raleigh to speak directly to legislators about the urgent impact of ongoing Medicaid cuts and the consequences of the state’s delayed budget approval.
On Monday, November 17, Owner Avani Shah and PR & Marketing Manager Tildsley Clifford McManus addressed members of the North Carolina General Assembly. Their remarks highlighted the essential role pediatric therapy plays in children’s development, the strain that reduced Medicaid reimbursement places on families, and the growing challenges faced by therapy providers across the state.
“Our mission is to ensure that every child—regardless of insurance barriers—has access to quality speech, occupational, and physical therapy,” said Shah during the visit.
The Therapy Smarts team returned to Raleigh on Wednesday, November 19 to attend the hearing titled “The Real-World Impact of Failing to Pass a State Budget.” The hearing provided additional insight into the statewide implications of stalled funding, including challenges in healthcare, education, and community programs. Staff members were present to ensure that the voices of children with developmental needs—and the providers serving them—were represented.
Continuing the week of advocacy, Therapy Smarts was honored to welcome Senator Natalie Murdock, representing the South Durham district, for a visit to the Durham clinic on Thursday, November 20. Senator Murdock toured the facilities, engaged with therapists, and witnessed firsthand the specialized, hands-on care provided to local families.
